Forbidden City

One of most famous place in china is Forbidden City which is the Ming and Qing dynasties emperors lived in. Forbidden city is a large palace . Its totally 720 thousand square meters. Forbidden city which is a museum now is located in Beijing.How is forbidden city looks like?Surrounded by 52-meter-wide river and 10-meter-high red wall ,there are more than seven hundred rooms. When i go thought the gate,i see a huge plaza. I cant believe that the Forbidden City had been built 600 years ago. The red wall still touching very hard. Standing in the center of the Forbidden City, i seem like an small ant in Lincoln park. When i walk into the TaiHe Palace, raise my head, there are some dragon state which seem alive on the roof. The TaiHe Palace is too large that i just hear my voice and echo. Thats amazing. Forbidden City is one of greatest palace in the world.

MCA Visit

  1. Museum Of Contemporary Art Chicago
  2. The building is not large as AIC, but I can feel more contemporary air in front of the door.
  3. Most memorable artwork:The Double Portrait make me confused, was there a man or a woman? they are same person or two persons? just because they are wearing same suit and have same haircut. The text said they were two persons, man and woman, they were a group of artists, who explores issues of "identity", in this picture, they were looked like same gender, same race, they were showing the "identity"
  4. Most disturbing artwork:The She Man, a nude woman are wearing a over size mark, the mark is a man mark.  The reason make me disturbed is on one side, I see a big head man mark and looks like his head
turn 180 degrees, which is terrible. Nude woman body makes me uncomfortable too, she open her legs, sitting on the table. I think this action is shame, but the artist showing the identity between man and woman.

Most interesting theme: MCA screen , in a dark room, three screens here, was playing different films, but same topic: many students in a classroom, teacher was teaching, at other screen, the students were exploring, they broken the wall and find a way. it looks like when we studying art, we exploring what art it is, we broken the question and find answers.

Thoughts for life gained from this visit:  Artist showing their thinking by their art, not all of them we can understand, but we can think about it, and find our own answer, there are not standard answer to art,nor our life.

About Doris Salcedo's art: Her art is whole fourth floor.
My experience to see her art: I don't understand what those table means, just like show grass growing on the table? and why show many tables? there so many earth, what that mean?
From the review: those table were showing these graves along with grieving mothers seeking the bodies of their lost sons. the artists feels the table like graves.

Cultural Center Visits

My first impression about the exhibit is the exhibit is very big, so many paintings here. That's not my first time to go to the cultural center, but it's my first time to see Archibald Mothley's work. My first impression about his work, is most of works are scene, all lot of them are in parts. It's showing people were happy, I saw the faces in those works were black. The work which is a black man dancing with white women impressed me most, it's unusual to see black and white in a same painting, in this work, they were dancing so enjoyed, i can feel they so enjoyed that they forget the people around them.
The nights in Bronzeville is the old settlers in Chicago. Portraits and Archetypes, is the section of the exbibition illustrates, motley's pare familial part voyeur vistic, deconstruction of the porenit genre. Caliente was painted in 1950s, Mexico.

ART institute trip reflection

ART institute trip reflection This is the second time I came to Art Institute of Chicago, it gave me different feeling to the first time. First, we watched Gustave Caillebotte’s Paris Street, which so big and real that catch my eyes. It looks like a real view. The buildings and the shadows, a women holding an umbrella, let me know that it is raining, although there no rain on the painting. The painting not only showing the artist’s skills, but also showing his life. Then we went to next room and saw different style painting -- A Sunday Afternoon on the La Grance Jatte. There are many trees and people, most of the color are green, looks so nice, makes me peaceful. My partner, Joel, said it made him enjoyable, it made he happy. I think the painting is showing what people want their life will be. Second, we saw many of Van Gogh works, I am so excited to see his real works. I can see his painting style change between works and works. The painting style before 1888 looks so simple and most of them I can feel happy in it. The painting style after 1888 had huge changed, it looks dark and sad. I know the reason is Van Gogh had argument with Ganuguin in 1888, and Van Gogh cut his ear. This is what I learn from my classmate.

Blog assignment 1

Sunflower. Van gogh in 1888. Why I choose this painting. When I saw this painting on Tv, I felt very warm in my heart, totally different from the sunflower I even seen in photo, it looks so sunny. I like the energy it give to me, every each sunflower seen has its own story. As I know, when Van gogh draw this painting, he was living with his best friend, he was so happy that he drew the sunflower also happy. It is amazing that he draw his happiness down, so we still can see his happiness on the painting. Somebody said there are a sunflower withered, is not so happy. But in my opinion, I think that is like our life, would not be full of happiness, sometime where will be sadness, the point is we are all like the other sunflower, full of energy in our life, those sadness will become the energy we are looking forward.

Van Gogh style

Van Gogh painting style is : post-impressionism. It means using very bright color in painting to express feeling. Using yellow and red to express happiness, using blue to express unhappy and sadness. Sunflower: was painted in 1888, Van gogh said sunflower is belong him. He used more yellow to express his enthusiasm. The Starry Night:was painted in 1889, after Van gogh cut his ear, the painting use many dark blue, witch showed Van gogh unhappy and going crazy.
