MCA Visit

  1. Museum Of Contemporary Art Chicago
  2. The building is not large as AIC, but I can feel more contemporary air in front of the door.
  3. Most memorable artwork:The Double Portrait make me confused, was there a man or a woman? they are same person or two persons? just because they are wearing same suit and have same haircut. The text said they were two persons, man and woman, they were a group of artists, who explores issues of "identity", in this picture, they were looked like same gender, same race, they were showing the "identity"
  4. Most disturbing artwork:The She Man, a nude woman are wearing a over size mark, the mark is a man mark.  The reason make me disturbed is on one side, I see a big head man mark and looks like his head
turn 180 degrees, which is terrible. Nude woman body makes me uncomfortable too, she open her legs, sitting on the table. I think this action is shame, but the artist showing the identity between man and woman.

Most interesting theme: MCA screen , in a dark room, three screens here, was playing different films, but same topic: many students in a classroom, teacher was teaching, at other screen, the students were exploring, they broken the wall and find a way. it looks like when we studying art, we exploring what art it is, we broken the question and find answers.

Thoughts for life gained from this visit:  Artist showing their thinking by their art, not all of them we can understand, but we can think about it, and find our own answer, there are not standard answer to art,nor our life.

About Doris Salcedo's art: Her art is whole fourth floor.
My experience to see her art: I don't understand what those table means, just like show grass growing on the table? and why show many tables? there so many earth, what that mean?
From the review: those table were showing these graves along with grieving mothers seeking the bodies of their lost sons. the artists feels the table like graves.
